HR 4733 & HR 4870
There are two federal bills currently pending in Congress:
The Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act (HR 4733) would prohibit the government from using taxpayer dollars to purchase animal products from animals raised in veal crates, gestation crates and battery cages – three cruel factory farm confinement systems that deny animals enough room [...] -
Fingerling Potatoes Recipe For Fried Potatoes – The Best You’ll Ever Eat!
There is nothing more homey and satisfying than a dish of fried potatoes, served as a side to breakfast, lunch or dinner. Many people adore ordering the crispy, crunchy, savory fried potatoes breakfast restaurants specialize in serving up, but efforts to recreate their goodness at home may result in an unappealing, mushy mess. At a time when BPA-containing [...] -
Retire Ronald McDonald
This is brilliant: a campaign calling on McDonald’s to send Ronald into retirement, joining the likes of Joe the Camel and the Marlboro Man. Ronald’s been marketing crappy food to children for 47 years, so it’s time to give him his gold watch and boot his ass out the door.
First-rate job on the website, [...] -
Whole Foods Market to Carry Daiya Vegan Cheese Starting Tomorrow
Some fantastic news: starting tomorrow, Daiya vegan cheese will be carried at all 279 Whole Foods Market locations in the USA. I’ve only had the stuff once since it’s been so hard to get where I live, but I can vouch for the fact that it lives up to the hype. The stuff [...]

Hawaii Kills Bill to Recognize Cockfighting
Well, that didn’t take long. Barely a day after I blogged about an effort by Hawaii legislators to formally recognize the tradition of cockfighting in the state, the lawmakers killed the bill. While they gave lame and evasive reasons, the bill’s dead and that’s what counts.
I’d have liked to see them use this occasion to [...] -
Addictions
An article about an experiment done on rats that indicated an addictive quality to fatty foods. But there are problems with these kinds of experiments.
